the music contained on these limited edition cdr's is the work of the pyramids of space collective- recorded in cornwall in the early nineties it belongs to a lost era of intelligent techno and it stands up alongside some of the great artists of that scene - distorted funky drum patterns that echo early aphex twin alongside melodies and chord progressions that would send the blackdog barking back to their kennel...also a similarity to autechre can be heard within the heavier grooves.....despite being called lo- fi classics, the production here is excellent...expansive analog sounds mix in and out of more regular rhythmic patterns creating a live mix of electronic music and human expression - dischordant in places harmonic in others... some tracks take on a more avant garde or minimal nature whereas others shake the bass speakers with sub basslines that talk to you and the kind of deeply syncopated and mechanical rhythms that existed before everybody got got into laptops and re-editing...there is a lot of live input going on here with lots of samples being triggered manually on earlier tracks and lots of live instrumentation too...essential listening...this music must be heard.
